Copenhagen’s City Archives comprise of the city’s most important records. The archive exists to contribute to the exploration, documentation, and dissemination of the history of the city of Copenhagen.
Materials from the archives are preserved for posterity and made available to the authorities, the public, and research. There are 40km of shelves with archival materials and records plus at last three terabytes of data to explore. The oldest document dates back to 1275.

If you want to find Danish relatives or explore the records in detail, you can do so at the reading room at Copenhagen City Hall. It is also possibl to visit the Copenhagen City Archives online, where a growing number of records are now stored and have been made searchable.
